Some technical details on our property for sale on Lake Eufaula:
When we purchased the 11+ acres in 2005, we did a survey dividing the property into 10 lots, creating the official plat of "Snowbird Acres" in Quitman County, Georgia.  We planned for family members and friends to join us in our winter retreat.  My sister and her family came down and helped us build two houses - one for us on Lot 1 and one for my parents on Lot 2.  My brother and his wife came and cleared their Lot 4, and helped to clear lots 1 through 7 in the second year we were all there.  Both houses have since sold, but we have some lots still available.  We continue to mow these lots and several look out over the main lake.  We brought water lines and meters to lots 1 through 6, with the water line ending at the edge of Lot 7.
The Plat Map above shows the lots and the approximate course of the lake, which is managed by the Department of Natural Resources.

Peanuts of Dothan

Dothan, Alabama, where there is an annual Peanut Festival in November each year is the "Peanut Capital of the USA".  So the peanut theme has created a cottage industry for making peanut icons for local businesses.  Here are a few of the cute ones we have observed over the years:

A new twist on the "Sam's Greeter"

Sadly, the Dothan Hooters is now closed - but they had such a cute peanut.
One of my favorites is the one at the newspaper, but I can't find that in my photo files....but it's fun to go find them yourself!

Walter F. George Dam

One of the interesting places to visit near our Georgia home is the dam that creates the lake where our house is located.  You can often spot many birds, and even some alligators along the shore as you drive out the causeway to the dam.
The dam on the Chattahoochee River at Ft Gaines was built in the 1950's immediately after President Eisenhower announced that no more federal dams would be built.  Then senator Walter F. George petitioned the president and the dam was commissioned.
The dam forms the impound lake of Lake Walter F. George, as it is known on the Georgia side of the lake and by the Corps of Engineers who maintain and monitor the dam and waterways associated with it.  On the Alabama side of the lake, the lake is a well known premiere bass fishing lake, and goes by its more common name of Lake Eufaula.  Tournaments are held many weekends during the Spring, Summer, and Fall months, and much of the recreation around the lake is centered on bass fishing.
Below the dam, the Chattahoochee River continues to where it joins the Flint River, and another dam impounds water for Lake Seminole.  As the water leaves that dam, it becomes the Appalachicola River, which continues to the Gulf of Mexico at Appalachicola, Florida (famous for oysters)!
Keep Scrolling for information about our house for sale just a few miles north of the dam!

The Murals Of Dothan

Dothan, Alabama, is the nearest large city near our property on Lake Eufaula.  The historic city of Eufaula, AL, has most everything we need, but if we want to see a movie or need something not found in Eufaula, we head to Dothan.  By taking back roads, we've found a way to get all the way into the city without ever stopping for a traffic light and have shaved our miles to town down to 53.

Murals of pioneer life and the history of Dothan can be found throughout the historic core of the city.
Peanuts are a big part of the Dothan culture.  I read somewhere that more than half of the peanuts that are grown in the world are grown within 50 miles of Dothan.
Fort Rucker
There are many more - come to this friendly area and enjoy the multifaceted culture.

Peanut Harvest

I love agriculture!  As we have traveled across the country, it is always interesting to see the crops that are a big part of our life and how they are grown and harvested.
Here in the South, peanuts are a huge part of the ag scene.  I read somewhere that most of the peanuts in the world are grown within about a 50 mile radius of our house.
Peanuts look a lot like potatoes when they are growing in the field.  Sometime in October or November, a special rake turns the plants over so that the peanuts from under the ground can dry in the fall sunshine.

Then the harvesting equipment and big trucks and bins arrive on the scene.
Multiple trucks and harvesters work every field when the peanuts are ready.  The peanuts go to the processing plant, and then the baler arrives to bale the peanut vines into hay for animal feed.
Every part of the peanut plant packs a big protein punch!  It's fun to watch the harvest in the fields that surround our lakefront community near Eufaula, Alabama.

The original Singer Sewing Machine Company started here.  The address of Westville Village is 9294 Singer Rd, Lumpkin, GA.
This just one of the many historic sites near our home that is currently for sale.

Abbeyville AL

One of our favorite places to visit is Abbeyville, AL, which is about 25 miles from our Georgia house.
Like many southern towns, Abbeyville is full of old buildings, antique stores, lovely plantings, and majestic old trees.
Even when the building is gone, often the facia has been preserved.
This one is now a parking lot, across the street from one of our favorite restaurants for southern cousine and sinful desserts.
From an old fashioned lunch counter
To a dining room full of old movie posters and antiques, Huggin' Molly's is a meaningful experience.
Stop in the "old South" and look at our home for sale on beautiful Lake Eufaula.
Located on the Georgia side of the lake on .97 acre lot.  Custom designed home with large covered dock with lift on the main lake.
